Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) conduct various examinations for the selection of Railways. RRBs call eligible Indian Citizens through Employment News for recruitment of various Technical, and Para Medical Posts in Group A, B, C, and D Cadres like Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent, Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant, Senior Section Engineer, and Chief Depot Material Superintendent and Non-Technical posts like Railway NTPC, Apprentice, Assistant Station Master, and Clerk. The selection procedure is through Written Examination. There is no Interview (Viva Voce) after the written examination. For a very few specific (Group A & B) categories there is a Viva after the written exam, while for certain other categories, there is a Skill Test (like typing test or stenography test) and for categories related to operational safety like Assistant Station Master, Assistant Loco Pilot, there will be an Aptitude Test.
RRB Exam Pattern – Overview Indian Railways is one of the largest networks with around 1.4 lakh employees. The job vacancies in railways are filled through recruitment by Railway Recruitment Board (RRB)/21 RRBs/Railway Recruitment Cells across the nation. The recruitment process for each post differs based on the requirement of the skill set for that particular post. The staff of Indian Railways are recruited under two categories i.e. gazetted (Group A and B) and non-gazetted (Group C and D) employees. A brief recruitment detail for each Group is given below. Group A – Through UPSC Exams Group B – By promotion from Group C or by RRB (for certain posts) Group C – By 21 RRBs across the nation Group D – By Railway Recruitment Cells across the nation The Exam Pattern for the post is detailed below under each section.
The First Stage of the selection process is the Written Exam which has questions based on the following subjects (i) Arithmetical Aptitude (ii) General Responsiveness (iii) General English (iv) Logical and Analytical Reasoning.
